Konstantin Novikov is a sculptor and conceptual artist from St. Petersburg. He started his artistic journey in the "Nepokorennye" art group, which became a significant phenomenon of St. Petersburg artistic life in the 2000s. The artist draws the main themes for his works from the current events taking place around. Passing through the prism of author's feelings, topical issues transform into plastic forms. Konstantin Novikov's work are penetrated with the interest to national heritage and symbols of Russian culture. He plays with national traditions, reinterprets them and shows them in a new form. The round loaf - a symbol of Russian hospitality - becomes cast iron, and the salt becomes diamond. The charcoal sack for the barbecue turns into a sack of rubber for the revolution in the square. A familiar subject newly interpreted prompts reflection on the values of modern society. As a graduate of the Department of Sculpture at A.L. Stieglitz Academy in St.Petersburg the artist has a perfect command of academic techniques. Reflecting on the sculptor's role in contemporary society, he is looking for new perspectives for the objects perception. So the casts left after various projects completion acquire a new life and turn into art objects "Particles". Turning round the view of classical sculpture, which traditionally emphasizes beauty, he changes the its functional meaning in the "The Plastics of the Essence" project and shows the parts that were not accepted and cut off from the human body. The author contemplates on the issues of physicality and invites the audience to admire the fat.
The artist does not limit himself to any frames and freely experiments with materials to implement his ideas. He creates a number of works, referring to the artistic technique called "readymade" and wraps up the topics hat excite him into forms and images familiar to the 21st century society. The response to such art objects is not immediate, but happens some time later, re-meeting the viewer in life. The author is interested in the way an object or sculpture reveal themselves in people's minds through their image versatility. Filling his works with his own emotional experiences, the artist always leaves room for thought.
